A STUDY ON THE VARIATION OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE DEMAND


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the management of emergency room¢¥s manpower and supplies through studying the variation of emergency medical service demand.
This study carried out on 6,956 patients who visited emergency room of 34 general hospitals in seoul during one week.
The major findings are as follows.
1. The mean of emergency patients number during one day is 993.7, Coefficient of variation 14.9%, range 861 through 1, 304.
The mean of admission cases is 291. 9 and discharge cases is 701. 9.
The coefficient of variation (C.V.) of emergency patients number from 8 o¢¥clock to 16 o¢¥clock is 27.8% to 56% and is the highest in all day
3. By the demand of emergency service type the medical service demand is 368.¢¥9, mean number and C.V. 10.8%, and surgical service demand,¢¥ pediatric service demand are high in order.
4. In Sunday, The demand of emergency service increased in major service types, such as medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric services
5. The mean of the emergency patients number is high at 18 o¢¥clock through 24 o¢¥clock.
6. In weekend, the emergency patients number increased and especially at 16 o¢¥clock through 24 o¢¥clock.
